I work on the biodiversity crisis in semi-natural terrestrial environments — and on how economic public policies could better address it. My approach combines ecology, economics and philosophy, with one requirement: publishing in each discipline to anchor the validity of interdisciplinary work.
I created and lead the BIOECON group at CIRED, which brings together researchers and PhD students around bioeconomic modeling and its epistemological challenges.
I develop a bioeconomic model that couples ecological dynamics and economic decisions — without assigning a monetary value to nature. The coupling is done through biophysical processes. This model, applied to over 600 small French agricultural regions, allows evaluating the impacts of agricultural policies on biodiversity, and vice versa.
Behind every economic model lie philosophical choices. I question the ethical foundations of the economy-ecology interface : what does it mean to "value" nature? What conceptions of the human-nature relationship underpin our policies? How can the concept of planetary boundaries frame our decisions?
How does science dialogue with society? I explore this question through research-creation : producing an art-science mediation object, then analyzing it. This approach takes shape in collaborations with photographers (AMAZONAS project on Amazon deforestation) and writers (Villa Medici residency on ecological narrative).
